Zareh Bursalyan

Zareh Bursalyan is an associate in Burke, Williams, & Sorensen’s Los Angeles office where he litigates cases in both state and federal court. Zareh also has experience with appeals in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Zareh defends law enforcement agencies, officers, and correctional facilities in civil rights litigation. Zareh litigates 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and constitutional law claims including First Amendment, Unreasonable Search and Seizure, Excessive Force, Eighth Amendment, Substantive and Procedural Due Process, and Equal Protection claims. Further, Zareh has experience developing presentations that advise law enforcement management throughout the state.

Zareh also litigates Government Claims under the California Tort Claims Act. He has litigated a variety of torts including negligence, medical malpractice, wrongful death, battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, interference with contractual relations, premises liability, and dangerous conditions of public property.

Zareh earned his J.D. from Southwestern Law School with a concentration in civil litigation and advocacy. During law school, Zareh was a judicial extern at Los Angeles Superior Court, where he gained invaluable litigation experience and developed a strong foundation in civil law and motion practice. Zareh also served on the Southwestern Law Review as a staff member and on the law review board as a senior lead articles editor. Zareh’s student note, An Inevitable Truism: Regulating Autonomous Vehicles as a Sale of Goods Under Article 2 of The Uniform Commercial Code was selected for publication in the Southwestern Law Review. Additionally, Zareh received the CALI “Excellence for Future” Award in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
